Harvey Dent, Gotham's White Knight, is dead, and with him, the hopes of those who believed he could defeat organized crime in Gotham once and for all. The Joker is loose, and while he hasn't been heard from in the last few weeks, city officials believe that it's only a matter of time before he shows his face again. Sociopaths are escaping from Arkham, Batman is a wanted man, and the candidates for the vacated Disctrict Attorney position are too busy mudslinging to get any real planning done. Many are starting to fear that without a leader to take charge, things may slip back into the chaos that existed before...

Today was certainly not a good day. She hadn't put anyone in jail yet and it was almost six PM. Plus, she'd been hassled all day by the PD recruits. Oh how she hated being one of the only females working in the building. Although the harassment had ended after a young recruit had grabbed her ass, and she'd returned the action by flipping him over her back and onto the floor in front of her. The rest of the PD had laughed at him as he laid there embarassed, and she'd simply gave the rest of them warning looks before returning to her office to check her messages. A punk named Chance she'd been looking for had been reported seen last downtown by a local bar. This was indeed satisfying, however not what she had been looking for. Her current quest was trying to find the Joker, though she currently had no leads.

No one had seen the Joker since his disappearance even though the word on the street was that he was still around and alive. The station was also told to keep a look out for Batman as well. Although it was her job, she knew that she wouldn't take him in to custody. He had done far too much for the city of Gotham to become the very criminals that he'd fought for so long. Plus, she highly doubted that he murdered those people. In fact if she did happen to stumble upon him it would probably end up being an advantage as he might have leads on the Joker. For now however she cleared her minds of all thoughts about the crazed killer and focused on the task at hand; finding Chance. He was wanted for armed robbery and the murder of two store cashiers.

Now focused on Chance she remembered her tip from earlier. With this she grabbed her nine millimeter and put it in her hip holster before exiting her office. Next, she grabbed a cup of coffee from the break room and then headed outside to her car. Since the event with the Joker around two weeks ago less people could be seen walking around the streets of Gotham. Though even less ventured out at night, it was still noticeable even in the daytime. It saddened her to think that people were afraid to be outside in the city that she had vowed to protect. However, she knew wasting anymore time thinking about it and being sad would only cause a distraction to her work.

Opening the door to her cruiser she placed her cup in the holder and started the car. It was unmarked, yet still fairly easy to spot. Driving downtown she entered the bar that Chance had been in and asked around where he might be. After a little..persuasion, a dark skinned, elderly man agreed to spill the beans on him. He told her that Chance had an uncle in the hospital and he was probably staying at his house. It was then that she decided to take a little time to visit this uncle. Leaving, she bought the man one last drink before exiting the smoke filled bar.

Upon entering the hospital it was clear that they were severly under-staffed. Nurses and doctors looked tired and overworked, all of them scattering around room to room. Their faces were frantic, and she knew that they needed a lot more help then they had. There were four to five beds crammed into one room at a time, sometimes even more when they could fit it. Wheelchairs seemed to be a rare accomidation, though it seemed many needed them. As she strode up to the front desk she felt bad for bothering the busy secretary. Though, it was necessary. As the young woman looked up she seemed as if she might pass out she was so tired. Large bags under her brown eyes were extremely apparent. Alex felt bad for the woman, and all staff at that.

After finding out which room Chance's uncle was staying in she made her way to the room, dodging frantic staff as she did so. He refused to tell her where Chance was, and she did what she had to get the information out of him. She squeezed his fluids to a higher, more fatal level everytime he refused to answer a question. Eventually, he was more then cooperative. Though she wasn't exactly happy about the methods she often used, she knew that they were indeed effective. This meant that she would continue to use them until ineffective.

After around fifteen minutes she had found out where Chance was staying as well as what he was armed with. Thanking his uncle, she began walking out of the hospital. Though usually cold, the hospital was actually rather hot. This was due to all of the body heat from over crowding. She could vaguely feel a bit of sweat on the back of her neck as she exited outside. It was now dark out, around eight PM. Her honey blonde hair cascaded down her middle back, loose curls falling against the back of her blouse. Once in the parking garage she knew she had to go find Chance before he had time to leave. However one thing was bothering her; she was not alone.
